4.6 million children live in a household with at least one unlocked, loaded gun. 600 children die by firearm suicide each year; 78% of school shooters under the age of 18 obtain the gun(s) from their home or the homes of friends and relatives.
The Be SMART campaign promotes responsible gun storage and asks all adults to take simple steps to reduce the harm that can occur when unsupervised children get ahold of an unsecured firearm.
Join us for coffee, bagels, and a brief presentation about the Be SMART campaign:
Date: Sunday, March 15
Time: 11:00-12:00
Location: Temple B’nai Israel
SMART adults follow these five easy steps to keep kids safe:
- Secure guns in homes and vehicles.
- Model responsible behavior around guns.
- Ask about unsecured guns in other homes.
- Recognize the role of guns in suicide.
- Tell your peers to be SMART
